Killie chief fears delay to new season

Kilmarnock general manager Dave MacKinnon is concerned that the shambles surrounding the SPL relegation issue could cause the new season to be put on hold. Speaking exclusively to Footymad MacKinnon said "The league definitely needs a shake-up and this might bring it about. If the original vote is overturned at the next meeting (on 22nd June), then Partick Thistle are going to fight it. I can imagine that there is some legal process that can block the start of the league."

Any delay to the start of the season would further diminish the reputation of the league, making it even more difficult to attract top quality stars and would create a fixture list pile-up which could take months to sort out.

MacKinnon thinks it is too late to change the rules now to affect the set-up of the league for the forthcoming season. "Whatever is decided now should be put in black and white and put in place for the season after next. After all, Inverness and Clyde both knew the rules about seating at the start of last season and didn't sort it out."

Kilmarnock's representative on the SPL board, Jamie Moffat, is keeping up to date with the situation despite being overseas, and MacKinnon assured Killie fans that the club had dealt even handedly throughout the proceedings. "We have done everything properly. Because of our ground-sharing agreement with Clyde, Mr Moffat immediately cited our conflict of interest and refused to take part in the original vote."
