It's been a long summer for us football-mad people but the good new is, it's almost upon us and the new season is just six days away! What kind of a season will the followers of Ayrshire's Finest expect?
The obvious answer is hopefully a darn site better one. Last season for all of us was a season to forget, however you could let one game be the exception to that - that game being the first win in a blue moon over the green half of Glasgow - we have the boys and Tango (Jimmy Calderwood) to thank for that.
Our clubs new home strip is out with the away one yet to be officially unveiled. We have a new manager Mixu Paatelainen, who has brought several trialists to the club and made his first signing with David Silva and brought a youngster from Chelsea, Ben Gordon on a short-term loan. The messages that the fans have been getting of the trialists, at the club have been good and do seem promising so the question does have to be asked... what does Mixu have that Tango nor Jim Jeffries did not have?
If our new signings as well as any more from the trialists that are good enough to win a contract at Kilmarnock, prove to be as good as the fans say they find them then our season may be a wee bit better than the last. The dreaded phrase of injuries is a horrible thought but the task this season, should not only be to survive but also to keep our best players as injury free for as long as possible.
Our first game of the new season on the 14th August, gives us a trip to Ibrox to the blue filth that is Rangers. We don't have a good record at Ibrox but there is always a chance for an upset to spoil their celebrations.
This could be the day that Mixu puts on one or two of the new boys in addition to the regulars in the starting XI. Surely a chance to perform and perhaps score against one of Scotland's biggest teams, would be the perfect opportunity for any of the new signings already made or to be regarding the trialists, to show that they are worthy of a regular starting place in Killie's XI.
BRING ON THE NEW SEASON! ONE TEAM IN AYRSHIRE - AYRSHIRE KILMARNOCK FOOTBALL CLUB TILL I DIE!
