Well this could just have been Killie's lucky day as despite the chilly weather, Ayrshire's Premier Football team came away with a rare 3 points and moved up to 4th in the table. You could also say that it was sweet revenge after the last meeting with the Highlanders ended in a 2-1 defeat back at Rugby Park in October.
The home side were unlucky not to be 2-0 up within the first 15 minutes as both shots just missed the net, but as almost everyone knows, if you don't take your chances you'll be made to pay for them later. This is just what happened to the Highlanders after 25 minutes, thanks to Kilmarnock skipper Craig Bryson who scored from close range on 25 minutes.
The visitors had more chances from Bryson, Sammon, Taouil and Fraser Wright also misse a chance to add to his rare goal tally after powering a header completely unchallenged wide of the net from an Alexei Eremenko corner. The home side too had their opportunity to score the equaliser before the end of the half, with Richie Foran and Russell Duncan shots going wide or over the bar respectively.
Half time score: Inverness CT 0-1 Kilmarnock. After the restart the visitors again were on fire with attacking style play. Caley goalkeeper Ryan Esson had to be at his best to stop Eeremenko and Taouil from scoring and putting the blue and white's in the lead. However Esson was eventually beaten by Liam Kelly's header from a Ben Gordon cross to make it 2-0 to Ayrshire's Finest.
Ben Gordon who is thoroughly enjoying playing at the Theatre is hoping that his loan-deal from the Stamford Bridge club can be extended, and let's just hope it can as he has been a great player for us and for a player of Gordon's age, it's vital that he gets first team as often has he can. It could also be a while before he is even on the sub bench for Chelsea's senior team.
Back to the action and Inverness CT are on the attack and this time they do beat the visitors defence, thanks to Richie Foran who's shot slightly deflected and just managed to get under Killie keeper Cameron Bell. Inverness CT 1-2 Kilmarnock. This meant that the home side would be throwing everything they could at Killie, to try and get the equaliser but alas it did not come and they were soon 3-1 down.
After another chance being missed from the visitors via Bryson, the visitors were then awarded a penalty. Jamie Hamill stood up to take the penalty which was saved by the Caley keeper, but the ball went slightly to the side in which Hamill yet again to the shot again and this time it went into the net.
Full time score: Inverness 1-3 Kilmarnock.
