Dunfermline won their first home league game for two months by seeing off a disappointing Kilmarnock at East End Park.
Two goals in an eight-minute spell late in the first half from Barry Nicholson and Billy Mehmet put them in control and second-half goals from Scott Wilson and Craig Brewster underlined their superiority.
Dunfermline – with eight players out through injury – had a youthful look about them and gave a debut to 17-year-old Greg Ross at right back.
In a tame opening, neither side seemed capable of getting to grips with a difficult surface and too many times passes went astray.
There was an early scare for home fans when goalkeeper Derek Stillie and central defender Scott Wilson both went for a Danny Invincibile cross and the ball flashed over the top for a corner.
The first effort on goal did not come until the 17th minute when Colin Nish met a Gary Locke corner at the near post but he could not direct his effort on target.
It stung Dunfermline into life and Alan Combe made a great double save to prevent them taking the lead.
Ross found himself in the opposing area and rifled in an angled shot which the goalkeeper could only push out and Brewster's follow-up shot was anticipated well by Combe.
Killie hit back and a neat touch from Craig Dargo wrong-footed the home defence but the ball just eluded Gary McDonald at the crucial time and Dunfermline cleared.
But Dunfermline went in front after half an hour with a well-worked goal.
Nicholson started the move with a fine through ball to Darren Young and when the cross came over Mehmet set the ball up for Nicholson to finish the move with a crisp right-foot shot.
There was immediately more purpose to Dunfermline after the goal and Brewster tested Combe again with a low 25-yard shot which skipped off the surface but the goalkeeper covered it well.
Combe made the save of the match nine minutes from the break when Nicholson thundered in a shot from the edge of the box and the Killie keeper somehow managed to claw the ball onto his left-hand post.
But he was left with no chance moments later when Brewster picked out Mehmet with a though ball and the striker had time to control the ball and fire a shot past a stranded Combe.
Wilson made it 3-0 in the 56th minute when he was not picked up at a Nicholson corner and he powered home a header.
Mehmet should have scored his second goal with 13 minutes left when Brewster put him through on Combe but he shot straight at the goalkeeper.
Substitute Gary Wales pulled back a late goal after Derek Stillie could not hold Invincibile's shot but Brewster had the final say by cracking home a fourth in the final minute.
