Well it was going to happen sometime and in typical fashion, Kilmarnock get beat by one half of the old firm in the cup. However it was clear that Rangers up to a certain extent, that being their performance alone deserved the win as Ayrshire's Finest just were not up to the job of trying to get a goal. The attractive style of football that the blue and whites now play under Mixu Paatelainen did not show on that night.
Rangers wanted it from the off as right from the whistle, they were attacking and passing quickly and shooting, however their tackling has to be questioned due to particular tackles on Craig Bryson and Alexei Eremenko were like being assaulted by a old firm ned. The commentary stated that "you could tell how highly Rangers rate Eremenko, as they are laying into him more than any other Kilmarnock player".
I beg to differ as if you rated an opposition opponent highly would you, not give them respect rather than tackling him so hard it brings him down like a tonne of bricks? In saying that maybe it's "the Rangers Way" of showing respect to an opposition player - you never know.
Soon Rangers dominance paid off despite the seriously rough tackling on Kilmarnock players, and Lee McCulloch opened the scoring thanks to a Kyle Lafferty pass. Lafferty himself scored shortly afterwards, to make it 2-0 to the home side from a shot at the edge of the box.
The visitors did have their chances but they could not make the final 3rd to get any goals.
It was much of the same in the second half and sadly yet again the visitors had the chances but they were missed. The game was over when the 3rd goal came after Jamie Hamill brought down Weiss, resulting in a penalty taken by Steven Whittaker.
Not the usual top notch performance from the visitors but the only good that can come to going out of the cup, is to keep winning those important league games to ensure that Ayrshire still has a football team in Scotland's top flight - the SPL.
Final score: Rangers 3-0 Kilmarnock.
